Warning, gross!

Patches doesn't seem to be able to handle her monthly visitor very well. She has been off the charts emotional, not violent. She cried on 4 separate occasions yesterday and what I really mean is she threw herself down and bawled her eyes out over nothing. One of the times was at bedtime, I heard her sobbing in the hall and asked her to come down to me. She gave me a terrible story of being kicked out of the little girls room b/c they came in and wanted to watch a different show. She had been in there alone to get away from them (b/c she insists they are ALWAYS mean to her). I felt bad for her and called the girls down. Emma looked at me and said, "One word, Mom, Saw5". She had been up there watching Saw 5! She expected the little girls to watch it with her! They were mortified and changed the channel b/c it was bedtime. I don't let her watch that crap anytime.

Today she was throwing a screaming fit in the yard b/c she thought they were being mean to her again. She was yelling about wanting to die. I went out there after I got the baby down and explained what I thought was going on, she was emotional b/c of her period. She seemed relieved and apologized to the kids. Of course, they hadn't been mean to her at all, she misunderstood and had jumped to conclusions about their intentions.

Rosa is the Queen of our Laundry. She pointed out that she didn't think Patches was using sanitary pads b/c she has a ton of bloody pants`and underpants. It got me thinking, she had changed her clothes 3 or 4 time today alone and claimed to have had accidents. Not unusual for her to have one but it did seem a bit much. I approached her about it and was shocked. It is hard to shock me at this point but I am amazed at how dedicated they are to doing it. She didn't like the way the pads felt so she just bled on herself and then changed when her panties were full. I stared at her with my mouth open. At least she was honest. I introduced her to the wonderful world of tampons. I had felt it was a bit too young but what do I know? She loved them. Please pray she remembers to take them out.

What am I going to do with 7 raging female teenagers? I am thinking of adding on to our closet and hiding there.

Is birth control an option to help regulate hormones?? I'm another one who spent about 8 years sobbing and suicidal due to those lovely hormones, but I can't even imagine how bad things must feel for her.

Good luck to you with them!!!

If she's cool with the tampons, look into getting her a diva cup. Mine was life changing. I can't imagine life without it.

Also, that reminds me of the time I figured out that one of my girls wasn't using toilet paper. Ugh.

I want to echo Abby's question. Not only the hormone issue, but the pills that are designed so you only take the placebo one week out of every three months could help with the cleanliness issue.

A good low dose birth control option for her since she doesnt mind tampons is the nuva ring. Its a low does once a month insert and she wouldn't have to remember to take pills everyday which I know can be tricky. Echoing innocent observers comment I've used the diva cup and its fine getting it in but the removal is pretty tricky and painful enough for me so I can't imagine what its like for someone as young as Cyr to try and remove it so afer the diva cup I'm just sticking with tampons.

I was about to suggest a menstrual cup too- At least it is something that needs to be changed when it is full..

Or maybe she would like cloth pads like a lunapad better, but that would increase laundry....

I'm sure you'll figure out something, Tudu... You're the best Mama she could have in this situation.

Oh, Tudu! I don't mean to laugh but your prayer request cracked me up. Sorry if I offend you, but I have a strange sense of humor, lol.

I hope she remembers.

I have a close friend who really DID try to kill herself at age 11. She's an adult now with children, but she blames pubescent hormones for this!

I'm not sure about birth control, yet. This is only about her 3rd or 4th cycle so I am hoping she gets used to it. I am all about helping her be a bit cleaner, the child is nasty! I will try the diva cup, I hadn't heard of that. She is pretty brave.

Michelle, I am rarely offended and glad you got a giggle.

Poor Patches... getting your period is hard for any kid! I wish Mother Nature would just let kids wait until they are a little older... like maybe 15 or 16... before they got their first period!

I had one foster daughter that had no hygiene whatsoever, and it was a constant struggle....
