Patches is hearing voices. I dismissed it many times as her joking or playing, even trying to scare the other kids. She was not. She has also seen things that were not really there. I am not sure what to do with this new information other than be strong or her. I was filling out a form today to admit her into this program and when I asked her some of the silly questions like the ones above she became very matter of fact and then irritated when I joked it off. She stood up and insisted she had told me many times. I thought for a moment, she was right. OMG, what does this mean for her? When I told my DH he paused and admitted she had told him the same things. I took a minute later on to look up all the symptoms and she has them. Usually it doesn't come on though until their early twenties. Please let this all be a big mistake......

We had our first Family Therapy session today with at the Center. They asked me what to do with the kids. They feel I am more qualified to do their jobs than many of their staff. I left without confidence in my children receiving anything more than a few new movies under their belt and some free time for me.

I have been falling down on my job here but I am still very sick and only enough energy to make sure no one kills anyone. I promise to get back to blogging as soon as I can.

So sorry you're still sick. Just wanted to tell you that I'm praying. There are lots of different ways to treat that, depending on the cause (I'm sure you already know that, but sometimes it helps to keep hearing it). This is not hopeless!

Yep, big hugs. The same thing is happening here and it has been draining and stressful but I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel (and hoping it's not the oncoming train.;-0)
Hoping you are feeling much better soon.

Hey, I found you another sibling group! Four boys and one of them is old enough to drive. :) There is also a sibling group of eight including three boys, ages 4 to 17, but I know that wouldn't fit in your van...

Poor Patches! I would have taken her comments as imagination or jokes too. I know as child I made all sorts of things up and convinced myself of them! Now that you know there's a possibility of something more, you will face it with all of your usual strength. Not to mention all of the cyber strength you get from your readers sending hugs and good vibes your way :-)

Hoping you feel better soon! Patches hearing voices could be a lot of different things - I know some people hear voices as part of flashbacks ... take care.

I read your blog, and others like it, but have never commented. I have a very different opinion of RAD than most. My daughter has been diagnosed with RAD and we saw 11 therapists, ALL of which ended up asking me "What do YOU think we should do?" That is when I knew there was no help from that one.
I am commenting here for one reason. My daughter heard voices and saw things also. It is not necessarily a mental illness. Children who needed to "escape" to survive had to open up their minds to a place most of us have never had to go. Because of that they are more apt to "see" and "hear" things when they feel unsafe. Just a word or phrase that is innocently used can cause an unsafe feeling in a traumatized child. They may not even know why. All this to say, hearing voices and seeing things in a traumatized child is not always a mental illness. I dealt with this in my daughter when she was 4 years old and it went away. I am not willing to share here...it is too long and private...but I want to tell you there is hope.
